Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nonlinear dynamics has emerged as a distinct field within applied physics and mathematics, and it has since become clear that most real-world physical processes are inherently nonlinear. While many systems can be approximated as linear with acceptable accuracy, numerous practical problems demand explicit consideration of nonlinear effects. Phenomena such as chaos, synchronization, multistability, hysteresis, or sudden jumps in resonance are intrinsic to nonlinear behavior and cannot be adequately described using linear models alone. In many cases, nonlinear responses are not merely unavoidable but advantageous, offering possibilities for enhanced efficiency, improved stability, or more effective control strategies.

This Special Issue highlights recent advancements, modern methodologies, and emerging challenges associated with nonlinear dynamics across diverse scientific and engineering disciplines. Its goal is to provide a platform for disseminating innovative theoretical developments as well as applications that illustrate the crucial role of nonlinear behavior in contemporary technology.

We warmly encourage researchers and practitioners engaged in the study or application of nonlinear dynamical systems to contribute their latest findings to this Special Issue of the MDPI journal Applied Sciences. This special issue will publish high-quality original research articles on the following and related topics:

  • Nonlinear dynamics in structural, mechanical, aeronautical, ocean, and electrical engineering.
  • Nonlinear phenomena such as chaos, synchronization, bifurcations, and quasi-periodicity.
  • Analytical, numerical, and experimental methods for studying nonlinear systems.
  • Nonlinear modeling in control, system identification, energy harvesting, friction, and damping.
  • Nonlinear vibrations in vibro-impact, self-excited, parametric, and non-ideal systems.
  • Advanced techniques for analyzing stability, resonance, and multistability.
  • Applications demonstrating the role of nonlinear effects in improving performance or control.
  • Studies integrating theory, computation, and experiments to address complex nonlinear behavior.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
