Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to explore the mechanistic role of the rumen microbiome in regulating metabolic health and production performance in ruminants through integrating multi-omics approaches (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metabolomics) to establish causal links between rumen microbial functions and host metabolic outcomes. We welcome original research and reviews addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Causal inference between the rumen microbiota and host metabolic phenotypes;
- Microbial metabolites as mediators of rumen–host cross-talk;
- Dietary and nutritional strategies for targeted manipulation of the rumen microbiota;
- Probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, and phage-based precision interventions;
- Early-life rumen microbiome programming and long-term metabolic health;
- Integration of machine learning and multi-omics for predictive microbiome models;
- Impact of rumen microbiome modulation on feed efficiency, methane mitigation, and animal welfare.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
