Antimicrobial Resistance in Food-Animal Production: Impact on Public Health
This special issue belongs to the section "Animal System and Management".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the impact of antimicrobial resistance in food-animal production on public health. Antimicrobial resistance poses a major threat to global health; indiscriminate use of antibiotics in food-animal production leads to antimicrobial resistance, which threatens animal husbandry and public health alike. Besides treatment, antibiotics are also used for anaphylactic, metaphylactic, and growth promotion purposes in food-animal production. Transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria to humans occurs directly through contact with or consumption of contaminated animal products. It is therefore important to understand the impact of the use of antibiotics in food-producing animals on the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance. Different countries have implemented various strategies based on the “One Health” approach to control its spread. Hence, this Special Issue aims to close the knowledge gaps associated with the impact of antimicrobial resistance in food-animal production on public health. It also focuses on effective strategies for controlling the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
This Special Issue aims to encourage researchers to publish their work related to antimicrobial resistance in food-animal production and its impact on public health. Researchers are welcomed to submit their original research, reviews, and brief reports. The suggested themes for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Bacterial disease;
- Food-animal production;
- Antimicrobial resistance;
- Epidemiology;
- Public health;
- Disease prevention;
- Animal health;
- Disease surveillance;
- Antibiotics;
- Control strategies.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
