Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the joint use of mathematical modelling and computer vision in animal reproduction and management. Its scope includes methods that link visual observations from images or videos with quantitative models describing biological processes, behavioral dynamics, and management decisions. The purpose of the Special Issue is to provide a common platform for studies that combine data-driven visual analysis with model-based interpretation, prediction, and decision support across different animal production systems.
Existing studies in animal science often rely on either empirical image analysis or standalone mathematical models. Computer vision research frequently emphasizes detection or classification performance, while biological interpretation and process modelling remain limited. At the same time, many mathematical models lack continuous and high-resolution input data from real production environments. This Special Issue aims to bridge this gap by presenting work in which visual information is explicitly connected to modelling frameworks, allowing a deeper understanding of reproductive status, development processes, health conditions, and management outcomes.
We welcome original research and review articles related to livestock, poultry, and aquaculture, covering both experimental studies and real-world applications.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
