Dear Colleagues,
Geometric morphometrics is a powerful tool that enables the precise quantification of morphological variation by capturing the geometry of biological forms through landmark-based approaches. Compared to traditional morphometrics, it offers greater sensitivity in detecting even subtle changes in shape, making it an invaluable methodology for addressing questions related to morphological diversification in comparative biology.
Following the success of our first Special Issue, we are pleased to announce this Second Edition, which continues to explore the broad applicability of geometric morphometrics across diverse biological contexts. Originally developed primarily as a tool for taxonomic discrimination among individuals, populations and species, geometric morphometrics has since expanded considerably in scope. In recent years, its applications have diversified significantly, establishing it as an exceptionally accurate framework for studying morphological variation in ecological and evolutionary contexts, including morphological adaptation, phenotypic evolution and ecomorphology.
This second Special Issue, therefore, welcomes contributions that apply geometric morphometrics to address questions related to morphological adaptation, convergent evolution, phenotypic plasticity and evolutionary ecology across a wide range of invertebrate and vertebrate taxa. We encourage submissions exploring shape variation in both applied and theoretical frameworks, contributing to a deeper understanding of the forces driving morphological diversification across the tree of life.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
