Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a new Special Issue entitled “Applications of Natural Language Processing in Information Processing”, which aims to highlight recent advances and innovative applications of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in modern information systems.

Natural Language Processing has become a cornerstone of contemporary information processing, enabling machines to analyze, interpret, and generate human language in increasingly sophisticated ways. By bridging the gap between unstructured textual data and structured knowledge, NLP techniques support intelligent information access, extraction, integration, and decision-making across a wide range of domains.

With the rapid growth of digital content, including text from social media, scientific publications, enterprise documents, and sensor-driven systems, effective information processing requires robust language-aware methods. NLP provides powerful tools for tasks such as text classification, information retrieval, sentiment analysis, topic modeling, summarization, question answering, and dialog systems. These capabilities play a crucial role in transforming raw textual data into actionable knowledge.

Recent breakthroughs in machine learning, deep learning, and large language models have significantly advanced the state of the art in NLP. Their integration into information processing pipelines has enabled more accurate semantic understanding, contextual reasoning, and scalable automation. At the same time, challenges related to interpretability, efficiency, multilinguality, domain adaptation, and ethical considerations remain active research topics.

The objective of this Special Issue is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to present original research findings, novel methodologies, and comprehensive reviews that explore how NLP techniques enhance information processing systems and applications.

In this Special Issue, we welcome high-quality original research articles and review papers. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Natural Language Processing for information processing;
  • Text mining and information extraction;
  • Information retrieval and semantic search;
  • Document analysis and text classification;
  • Topic modeling and text clustering;
  • Sentiment analysis and opinion mining;
  • Question answering and conversational NLP;
  • Automatic text summarization;
  • Large language models for NLP;
  • Multilingual and cross-lingual NLP;
  • Neural and deep learning approaches for NLP.

We hope that this Special Issue will stimulate further research and foster collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of Natural Language Processing for information processing.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Big Data and Cognitive Computing is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
