Cover Story: Micro air vehicles (MAVs) exhibit diverse applications, although their endurance remains an open challenge. This study presents a groundbreaking energy–aerodynamic co-optimization framework addressing this trade-off for solar-powered MAVs. A graphical-based algorithm automatically maximizes solar panel deployment on complex wing surfaces while optimizing aerodynamic efficiency via computational fluid dynamics simulations and multi-objective evolutionary algorithms. Wind tunnel tests and flight experiments validate the tailless vectored-thrust prototype, demonstrating the capability of flight duration extension. This study bridges the gap between photovoltaic integration and aerodynamic performance, offering a scalable solution for sustainable MAV operations. View this paper
