Cover Story: This paper investigates the radiation tolerance of three wavelength-shifting (WLS) materials—TPB, NOL1, and SB2001—deposited on ESR and E-PTFE substrates. To evaluate their feasibility for nuclear fusion diagnostics and scintillators, six system configurations were exposed to gamma radiation (up to 1000 kGy) and 14.1 MeV fast neutrons (up to 1.9 × 1013 n/cm2). Spectroscopic analysis revealed that high-dose gamma irradiation caused significant degradation, including spectral broadening and performance variation exceeding 10% for TPB and SB2001. In contrast, neutron-induced effects were minimal. These findings contribute to the understanding of WLS material stability under radiation and support their application in optical components exposed to harsh nuclear environments. View this paper
