Cover Story: There are many factors that could affect amelogenesis and result in DMH, HPSM, and MIH, so the purpose of this review is to investigate which environmental and genetic factors were the most involved in the development of enamel defects for making early diagnosis and formulating an equally timely treatment. From the emerged results, there seems to be a relationship between an insufficient mineralization and SNPs expressed in the secretion or maturation stage of amelogenesis, but also between that and some postnatal factors, such as such the breastfeeding period, asthma, high fever episodes, infections, chickenpox, antibiotic intake, diarrhea and pneumonia.
