Cover Story: High-dimensional sparse matrix data, like word-word co-occurrence counts and e-commerce item pairs, often have skewed non-negative values with many zeros. We predict item or user relevance using unknown dense vector representations. Our model employs zero-inflated Gamma random variables and cosine similarities. We estimate the unknown parameters with shared parameter alternating zero-inflated Gamma regression models (SA-ZIGs), considering canonical and log link models. We propose two parameter updating schemes and an algorithm for estimating parameters, as well as an analytical convergence analysis. Numerical studies show that a SA-ZIG with a learning rate adjustment performs well, while Fisher scoring without adjustment may fail to find the maximum likelihood estimate. View this paper

Let M(Spin(8,C)) be the moduli space of Spin(8,C)-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface X of genus g≥2. This admits a system called the Hitchin integrable system, induced by the Hitchin map, the fibers of which are Prym varieties. Moreover,...

In light of the planar inverse problem of Newtonian Dynamics, we study the monoparametric family of regular orbits f(r,θ)=c in polar coordinates (where c is the parameter varying along the family of orbits), which are generated by planar potent...

Fuzzing is an extensively used automated vulnerability detection technique. Most existing fuzzers are guided by edge coverage, which makes them less effective in detecting specific vulnerabilities, especially use-after-free (UAF) vulnerabilities. Thi...

In this work, a functional variant of the polynomial analogue of Gandy’s fixed point theorem is obtained. Sufficient conditions have been found to ensure that the complexity of recursive functions does not exceed polynomial bounds. This opens u...
