Cover Story: Thermally Stimulated Currents (TSCs) performed with nanocrystalline TiO2 films in a wide temperature range (5–630 K) evidence the presence of mixed conduction mechanisms, due to free carriers in extended states and hopping in localized states, this latter phenomenon originating from an exponential tail within the forbidden gap. Below 200 K, conduction is mainly due to hopping, while at higher temperatures it is dominated by deep levels related to adsorbed water, OH groups and oxygen vacancies. View this paper
