Cover Story: Adhesive hydrogels with releasable antimicrobial peptides have the potential to be used in many biomedical applications. In this article, it is demonstrated that such a material based on alginate modified with side chain catechol groups can be used as a potential methodology to prevent periimplantitis. Indeed, such gels take less than a few minutes to set and offer excellent adhesive properties. The incorporated antimicrobial peptide is released in a partially hydrolyzed but still active form.
