Cover Story: Reindeer are a relatively new house species in Switzerland and are kept in enclosures on individual farms. This is the first study conducted about reindeer in this country. A total of 67 animals from 8 different herds were included in the study, which involved two visits to each herd. The owners completed a standardized questionnaire, the animals were weighed, and fecal samples were collected. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the husbandry, feeding practice, and endoparasite prevalence of in-housed reindeer in Switzerland, and to offer basic data for keepers and veterinarians working with this deer species. View this paper
