Cover Story: N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) represent an attractive class of ligands for both main-group and transition metals thanks to the easy modulation of their steric and electronic properties. The possibility of introducing chirality into an NHC framework has paved the way to the design of chiral NHC ligands and contributed to enhancing their potential for applications in different chemistry fields. This paper provides an overview on the use of C2-symmetric NHCs as ancillary ligands for transition metal complexes and their most relevant applications in asymmetric catalysis. View this paper
