February 2020 - 89 articles

Cover Story: An XtalController was used to monitor the crystallization of two enzymes, the CCA-adding enzyme of the psychrophilic bacterium Planococcus halocryophilus, and the hen egg-white lysozyme in the presence of the Tb-Xo4 crystallophore. Using light scattering, the XtalController allowed us to follow the nucleating effect of Tb-Xo4 on lysozyme and produce high-diffraction-quality crystals for structure determination. This novel technology opens a way to the rational production of samples for crystallography, ranging from nanocrystals for electron diffraction to microcrystals for serial or conventional X-ray diffraction and larger crystals for neutron diffraction.
