Cover Story: In this work, we investigated the co-deposition of copper and iron species on hydroxyapatite to prepare catalysts for NH3-SCR. Hydroxyapatite is an eco-friendly material that can be derived from various waste streams, easily functionalized with controlled metal loadings, and safely disposed of. Its catalytic potential extends to various reactions for environmental protection, with further applications yet to be explored. Targeted characterization revealed no direct interaction between Cu and Fe species, regardless of loading, indicating that the metals were not sufficiently close to enable cooperative effects. Absence of catalytic synergy in the reaction confirmed these findings. Interestingly, the bimetallic catalysts exhibited improved water resistance compared to their monometallic counterparts, with iron acting in a sacrificial role. View this paper
