Cover Story: Neuronal networks in our brain comprise of highly complex connections between cell bodies, axons and dendrites of neurons. While micropatterning techniques have been utilized for building simplified neuronal networks, the position of each cell body, axon and dendrite has been difficult to control. This paper presents miniaturized building blocks that control the position of cell bodies, axons, and dendrites of single neurons, and can be repositioned during cell culture. A simplified neuronal network can be designed and built by assembling the building blocks one by one. View this paper.
