Cover Story: Atmospheric particulate matter can act as an important carrier of Pb, Cd, and Ni, linking environmental contamination with human and animal exposure. This review integrates emission sources, atmospheric transformation, deposition, human and animal exposure, and the molecular mechanisms underlying metal-induced toxicity. Particular attention is given to oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA damage, and epigenetic alterations. The study further highlights the value of predictive modeling and a One Health framework for linking environmental contamination with internal exposure, biological responses, and risk reduction. View this paper
