Cover Story: We argue that while universal healthcare would require substantial upfront costs, equitable and affordable universal healthcare could lead to a healthier populace and help mitigate the long-term economic costs of an unhealthy nation. Universal healthcare may also help facilitate and encourage sustainable, preventive health practices. Despite upfront challenges, universal healthcare may be more advantageous for the long-term public health and economy of the United States. View this paper
