Advances in Bio-Based Functional Materials for Sustainable and Biomedical Applications
Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
Nowadays, the development of innovative bio-based functional materials has emerged as a key strategy to address not only current but also future environmental and biomedical challenges. The topic aims to highlight recent advances in the design, synthesis, and application of sustainable materials derived from renewable resources, including polysaccharides, proteins, nucleic acids, and biopolymers such as bio-based polyesters.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
1) Novel bio-based materials;
2) Functionalization strategies;
3) Advanced composites with tailored properties.
Particular attention will be given to sustainability-driven applications, such as:
- Sustainable packaging;
- Environmental remediation;
- Bio-based membranes;
- Eco-friendly electronics;
- Carbon capture and circular economy solutions.
Biomedical applications are equally of interest, including:
- Drug delivery systems;
- Theranostic agents;
- Tissue engineering;
- Bioinks for 3D bioprinting;
- Biosensing platforms.
Contributions adressing green synthetic routes, bioprocesses scalability, and structure–property–function relationships are especially encouraged. This topic seeks to innovate at the interface of materials science, nanotechnology, and biotechnology, promoting the development of the next-generation of bio-based functional materials for sustainable and biomedical applications.
We kindly invite you to submit your work in the form of a research article, communication, or review.
