Dear Colleagues,

The artificial intelligence (AI) era brings novel insights to global governance and the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with advanced AI and computational tools serving as core enablers. Intelligent digital governance has become a vital driver for green, resilient, and inclusive progress toward the UN SDGs worldwide. Powered by data and algorithm-based decision-making, AI tools can precisely identify developmental challenges and provide quantitative indicators to advance balanced economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Practical innovations, including intelligent ecological monitoring, digital poverty assessment, smart resource allocation, and AI-powered public services, effectively boost inclusive social development and ecological conservation, accelerating holistic SDG achievement. Nevertheless, integrating AI technologies into global sustainable development practices still presents notable challenges and uncertainties. Three critical research gaps remain: (1) How can we clarify the interactive mechanisms between AI innovation and SDG implementation amid global technological transformation? (2) How can AI empower multi-dimensional governance to advance systematic, coordinated SDG frameworks? (3) How can we adopt emerging machine learning models to quantify AI’s multi-faceted impacts on sustainable development? This Topic welcomes original research on AI for environmental monitoring, intelligent resource optimization, inclusive sustainable policy design, AI-driven climate governance, clean energy innovation, and algorithm-based sustainable resource management. Such research can systematically clarify the interplay between AI technologies and SDG implementation in the intelligent era.
