Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
As the complexity of systems continues to deepen, the scope of research into systems engineering has expanded beyond traditional single engineering or information systems, gradually extending to complex composite systems that integrate physical space, information networks, and social elements. An organization, as a complex system integrating human resources, technology, capital, and other elements, faces high levels of complexity and uncertainty in its management and operations. Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE), as an emerging discipline, involves applying the principles of systems engineering, advanced concepts, and systematic methods to the planning, design, improvement, and efficient operation of organizations. Currently, with the continuous advancement of digital and intelligent technologies, enterprises are confronted with the challenges of change and transformation in increasingly complex socio-technical environments, urgently requiring the application of systems engineering theories and methods to provide top-level solutions.
This Special Issue focuses on issues such as digital transformation, strategic management, and enterprise optimization for various mission-oriented organizations, including companies and military and government agencies. It explores how to apply systems thinking and systems engineering theories and methods to develop systematic frameworks, practical tools, and comprehensive solutions to effectively address the inherent complexity within enterprises. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Fundamental theories, methodological frameworks, and reviews of the current state of ESE;
- Theoretical methods and cutting-edge technologies for digital transformation;
- Applications of systems engineering in strategy management and digital transformation;
- Theories and methods of socio-physical–cyber systems;
- Standards and norms for digital transformation;
- Methods and technologies for Enterprise Architecture governance and control;
- Theories and methods for business process re-engineering;
- Planning, demonstration, and design of digital equipment;
- Methods for organizational assessment and optimization.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Systems is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
