Dear Colleagues,
Cities are exerting growing pressure on urban water resources due to rapid expansion, increasing water demands, and more extreme climate fluctuations. In many regions, particularly arid and semi-arid areas, urban water systems face difficulties due to decreasing groundwater levels, worsening water quality, and increasing vulnerability to severe weather events. These pressures are pushing conventional management approaches to their limits, underscoring the need for comprehensive, adaptive, and scientifically grounded strategies that emphasize system balance, resilience, and structural coherence.
This Special Issue focuses on symmetry-based approaches to urban water resource development and management. We invite original contributions on groundwater–surface water interactions, water quality and contamination risks, urban water supply and reuse systems, and climate-resilient infrastructures, with particular emphasis on supply–demand balance, symmetric or near-symmetric network structures, and spatial–temporal equilibrium. Studies employing mathematical modeling, optimization, and control, as well as innovative tools, such as geomatics, remote sensing, environmental modeling, and data-driven methods, including machine learning, receive particular attention. By integrating symmetry-aware methodologies with applied case studies, this Special Issue aims to advance sustainable and resilient urban water management.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
