Sustainable Oceans
A section of Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050).
Section Information
The ocean (also the sea or the world ocean) is the body of salt water which covers approximately 71% of the surface of the Earth. A common definition lists five oceans, in descending order by area, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern (Antarctic), and Arctic Oceans. The ocean drives global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. Careful management of this essential global resource is a key feature of a sustainable future.
“Sustainable Oceans” publishes rigorously peer-reviewed manuscripts from all disciplines, and inter-/trans-disciplinary and co-designed research; all submissions must advance our understanding of all aspects of the environment, biology, energy, engineer, ecosystem functioning, and human interactions with the oceans.
This Section of the journal encourages the submission of articles related to:
- marine resource
- marine energy
- marine ecology
- marine policy
- marine pollution
- marine biodiversity
- green technology
- marine engineering
- ocean conservation
- ocean economy
- marine transportation
- marine management
- polar and arctic engineering
- coastal management
Both research papers and review papers on these topics are welcome. In particular, “Sustainable Oceans” welcomes contributions by early-career researchers and propositions for Special Issues on a single, interesting theme in the field of sustainable ocean ecosystems.
