Spine Tumors

Dear Colleagues,

Primary and metastatic tumors of the spine represent a significant cause of patient morbidity, and present a management challenge to treating providers. Image guidance (IG) and robotics systems are becoming increasingly widespread in their utilization, and can be invaluable intraoperative adjuncts during spine surgery. Following the introduction of image guidance into spinal surgery, there has been a dramatic increase in its utilization across disciplines and pathologies. Spine tumor surgery encompasses a wide range of complex surgical techniques and treatment strategies. Similar to deformity correction and trauma surgery, spine navigation holds potential to improve outcomes and optimize surgical technique for spinal tumors. Recent data demonstrate the applicability of neuro-navigation in the field of spinal oncology, particularly for spinal stabilization, maximizing the extent of resection and the integration of minimally invasive therapies. There is a great deal of data on the accuracy, effectiveness, and safety of robotic-guided technology which reflects remarkable improvements in quality of care.

Growing interdisciplinary collaboration among scientists and clinicians will further elucidate the synergistic possibilities among systemic, radiation, and surgical interventions for patients with spinal tumors, and will bring many closer to curative therapies.

This Special Issue is proposed to assemble multidisciplinary advanced studies dealing with all aspects of surgical spinal tumor treatment.

Surgeries is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
