Transforming Social Work Education: Global Challenges, Research, Pedagogy and Practice for a Changing World
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Social work education continues to operate within an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global environment; climate change, migration and displacement, geopolitical conflict, widening Global North–Global South inequalities, artificial intelligence, changing patterns in health and social care work and the continuing impact of global crises are altering the contexts in which social workers practise. Social work educators are challenged to move beyond traditional approaches to curricula, social pedagogies and learning for the profession in order to develop students’ capacities to work with uncertainty and increasing complexity. This 2nd Edition of the Special Issue responds to the accelerating pace and scale of change facing the profession and asks what transformative educational and practice responses are required.
This call seeks contributions exploring transformative innovations in social work education that strengthen the resilience, adaptability and professional capability of students, practitioners and field education environments. The Special Issue welcomes international and interdisciplinary contributions that critically examine responses to global challenges and to consider how curricula, institutions, organisations and regulatory bodies can collectively create conditions for sustainable learning, professional identity and transformative practice for the profession.
Abstracts of original articles based on primary data, reflective practice narratives, theory-based think pieces, educational papers, systematic literature reviews, research and practice innovations are welcomed.
