Essential Oils: Extraction, Chemical Composition, and Biological Activity

Dear Colleagues,

Essential oils (volatile oils) are promising natural products that possess several biological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, allelopathic, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, insect repellent, etc. The essential oils from natural products attract the attention of researchers and scientists worldwide as they can be integrated into agricultural, industrial, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications. The essential oils can be extracted with different techniques such as water distillation (hydrodistillation), steam distillation, solvent extraction, CO₂ extraction, cold-press extraction, maceration, microwave extraction, etc. Thousands of chemical compounds of these essential oils were identified from natural resources, including plants, microorganisms, and animals. The natural products of essential oils are characterized by diversity, fewer side effects, eco-friendly, and safety.

Manuscript Submission Information

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Separations is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
