Identifying and Monitoring of Landslide and Subsidence Using Remote Sensing Observations
This special issue belongs to the section "Engineering Remote Sensing".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Under the influence of climate change and human activities, geohazards like landslides and subsidence occur frequently worldwide, threatening lives and infrastructure. Over the past decades, interferometric satellite radar data have revolutionised geohazard mapping and monitoring, providing millimetric ground-deformation measurements over wide areas. Moreover, unique initiatives like the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) now offer unprecedented datasets. However, this massive data abundance creates a significant operational gap between the scientific community and risk management authorities, creating an urgent need for advanced, semi-automated workflows capable of transforming millions of radar measurement points into clear, actionable information for civil protection and local stakeholders.
This Special Issue aims to bridge the gap between remote sensing big data and operational geohazards management. We focus on innovative approaches that automate geohazard identification, improve data interpretation, and enhance predictive capabilities. By exploring the correlation between kinematic trends and environmental variables through advanced time-series analysis and deep learning, this issue seeks to advance early warning systems and territory planning.
We invite original research submissions. Suggested themes include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Advanced InSAR applications and multi-band satellite data integration;
- Exploitation of EGMS data for geohazard mapping and monitoring;
- Methodologies to bridge the gap between remote sensing big data and risk management authorities;
- Semi-automated processing, advanced spatial clustering, and time series analysis for geohazards;
- Machine Learning and deep learning for hazard mapping and inventory updating;
- Correlation analysis between ground deformation and environmental/climatic drivers.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
