Dear Colleagues,
The oral route is a convenient, cost-effective, non-invasive, and highly preferred route for the administration of drugs. Unfortunately, not all useful bioactive compounds fulfil the criteria that allow them to be successfully orally administered in their base form. The obstacles that scientists have been working towards overcoming for oral delivery include a combination of barriers that are both physical, which include the physiological membranes, and biochemical, which include the various conditions of the gastrointestinal tract that can cause drug degradation. Traditional strategies to overcome these obstacles include the chemical modification of the base compound and/or formulating them into delivery systems.
This Special Issue will provide a collection of recent strategies that build upon the works of chemists, formulation scientists, and other disciplines in novel and interesting methods in order to achieve the successful oral delivery of drugs. We invite and welcome original research articles and reviews covering all disciplines that focus on enhancing the oral bioavailability of drugs to contribute to this Special Issue.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
