Dear Colleagues,
Harnessing the clean energy of visible light through photocatalysis offers a promising avenue for driving chemical transformations with minimal environmental impact. Despite considerable advancements in recent years, attempts to maximize the efficiency of visible light conversion have thus far failed to meet the threshold required for practical applications on a scale capable of substantial societal benefits.
Nanostructured materials add an additional dimension to photocatalysis by exploiting the unique interactions between nanomaterials and visible light. The synergistic interplay between visible light and nanostructured catalysts enables precise electron transfer between chemical substrates and intermediates, along with selective energy transfer through light-absorbing catalysts. Moreover, the utilization of complex heterostructures, composed of intertwined nanounits, might enhance catalytic performance through cooperative action.
This Special Issue of Nanomaterials aims to showcase recent advancements in the utilization of nanomaterials for photocatalytic processes, with a particular focus on harnessing visible light, which is most strongly emitted in the solar spectrum. It will delve into the development of novel nanostructured light-responsive catalysts, the elucidation of their structure-dependent properties, and the exploration of their applications in various catalytic processes, such as energy conversion, pollutant degradation, artificial photosynthesis, organic synthesis, and water splitting, among others. Additionally, this Special Issue will welcome innovative ideas and the latest findings pertaining to light-responsive nanostructured materials, with the aim of paving the way for transformative advancements in catalytic processes driven by visible light energy.
