Bioactive Secondary Metabolites in Natural Products
This special issue belongs to the section “Natural Products Chemistry“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In natural resources (plants, mushrooms, fungi, bacteria, and animals), secondary metabolites constitute a rich source of biologically active substances that have found applications in medicine, cosmetics, the food industry, and other fields. Naturally derived secondary metabolites constitute a fascinating area of research, where scientists are seeking new applications for natural compounds that play a crucial role in ecosystems and hold enormous potential for the development of various industries. Many secondary metabolites have been found to have medical applications as drug components. Secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, are valued for their antioxidant and anti-aging properties. Many drugs are derived from plant secondary metabolites, for example, alkaloids used in cancer treatment. One way to prevent homeostasis disorders that occur as a result of excessive production of substances is to include ingredients that have pro-health properties in the diet. These compounds include certain enzymes; sterols; flavonoids; phenolic compounds; ergothioneine; theanine; indole compounds; carotenoids; and some vitamins, macro-, and microelements, which exhibit many medicinal properties.
We invite you to submit your latest research findings or a review article to this Special Issue, which will bring together current research concerning secondary metabolites from natural products in the prophylaxis and cure of civilization diseases.
We look forward to your contribution.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
