Trends in Biosensors for Biomedical Applications

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent times, biosensors have gained significant attention as powerful analytical tools for detecting and analysing biological substances, leading to advancements in various fields such as medical care and treatment, drug discovery, environmental monitoring, and food safety assessment. Due to their specific recognition layers (e.g., antibodies, aptamers, nucleic acids, peptides) and transducers (e.g., optical, electrochemical, nanogravimetric), biosensors enable accurate, rapid analysis with high sensitivity. The utilization of various nanomaterials in the fabrication of biosensors provides higher electrical conductivity, increases the surface-to-volume ratio, and amplifies analytical signals, which enhance sensitivity and reduce the detection limit.

This Special Issue of Molecules devoted to Trends in Biosensors for Biomedical Applications will offer a comprehensive selection of recent research articles, short communications, and reviews focused on advancements in biosensor development for the detection of cellular and exosomal proteins, as well as nucleic acids including miRNA, mRNA, circulating free DNA (cfDNA), and cell-free RNA (cfRNA), as biomarkers for cancer screening, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. The topics covered will also address future perspectives, challenges, and limitations of biosensor technology in early-stage disease detection, as well as the portability and miniaturization of sensing platforms.

We warmly invite researchers involved in the broad area of biosensor research for biomedical applications to contribute original research papers or review articles to this Special Issue, presenting current progress in the field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
