Special Issues, Collections and Topics in MDPI journals
Studies on microbes in polar ecosystems are not only scientifically highly relevant but, considering the sensitivity of these high latitudes to increasing global climate change, polar microbiology is also an utterly timely research field. An improved understanding of their diversity and population dynamics, their impact on element cycling, and the specific challenges and stressors polar microbes (bacteria, archaea, eukaryotes, and viruses) experience and have to adapt to, is warranted. This Special Issue will collect original research studies (field, experimental, and theoretical) on all aspects of microbial life in polar ecosystems (inclusive to tundra, ice, freshwater, and marine environments).

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs).
