Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to consolidate innovative research in membrane technology, with a particular focus on its role in achieving water sustainability. It emphasizes advancements, applications, and challenges, providing a platform for researchers to share original studies and comprehensive reviews on membrane structure, performance, processes, and applications in water treatment. Authors will be encouraged to provide detailed experimental, theoretical, and computational findings to ensure reproducibility and foster further innovation in the field.

The Special Issue will particularly highlight graphene oxide-based membranes and advanced fabrication strategies, including plasma-assisted engineering, polymeric modifications, and thermal treatments, for applications such as pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and high-performance water purification. This focus aligns closely with the journal’s scope, addressing both fundamental and applied aspects of membrane science and promoting research that contributes to sustainable water management.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles and reviews covering a broad range of topics in membrane technology for sustainable water treatment, including (but not limited to) the following:

  1. Membrane materials and fabrication techniques, including graphene oxide-based membranes and plasma-assisted engineering approaches.
  2. Novel membrane processes and configurations for enhanced water purification.
  3. Fouling mitigation and control strategies to improve membrane performance and longevity.
  4. Advanced characterization techniques and comprehensive performance evaluation of membranes.
  5. Membrane-based technologies for desalination and brackish water treatment.
  6. Applications in wastewater treatment and reuse, including pharmaceutical and industrial effluents.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
