Multi-Objective Optimization and Its Applications
This special issue belongs to the section "D: Statistics and Operational Research".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Multiobjective optimisation has become a cornerstone of modern decision-making in science, engineering, and industry. Real-world systems are inherently complex and often require the simultaneous optimisation of multiple, frequently conflicting objectives. From sustainable resource allocation to intelligent manufacturing systems, the need for robust, efficient, and scalable multiobjective optimisation techniques continues to grow.
This Special Issue aims to present recent theoretical advances, computational methodologies, and practical applications in multiobjective optimisation within the broad domain of statistics and operational research. Particular emphasis will be placed on innovative modelling frameworks, algorithmic developments, and interdisciplinary applications that address contemporary industrial and societal challenges.
We welcome high-quality original research articles and comprehensive review papers that explore, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Mathematical modelling for multiobjective decision problems;
- Evolutionary and metaheuristic multiobjective optimisation algorithms;
- Pareto optimality theory and performance metrics;
- Inventory and supply chain optimisation;
- Production scheduling and resource allocation in mining and manufacturing;
- Optimisation in water resource management;
- UAV path planning and intelligent transportation systems;
- Optimal control and dynamic multiobjective systems;
- Data-driven and stochastic multiobjective optimisation approaches;
- Applications in sustainability, energy systems, and smart infrastructure.
The objective of this Special Issue is to foster collaboration between theoreticians and practitioners by highlighting methodological innovations alongside impactful real-world applications. Contributions that bridge theory and practice, introduce emerging trends, or identify future research directions are particularly encouraged.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
