Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Fuzzy systems and intelligent control are essential for robust decision-making in complex, uncertain environments. This Special Issue aims to define the future of robust and interpretable intelligent control by showcasing the synergy between fundamental mathematical approaches and cutting-edge computational techniques. The evolution of fuzzy systems and intelligent control is driven by advancements in mathematical approaches that provide rigorous theoretical foundations, and highly efficient computational techniques required for real-world deployment. This confluence is vital for addressing the demands of modern complex systems, where both performance and trust are paramount. This Special Issue seeks to capture the latest progress in translating theoretical insights into practical, deployed systems.
This Special Issue invites original research and review articles that explore the theoretical, methodological, and applied progress in this field. We seek contributions that highlight the mathematical rigour underlying new fuzzy models, the computational efficiency of novel learning and optimization algorithms, and the application of these systems in complex domains such as explainable artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous systems, and advanced robotics.
We welcome submissions addressing, but not limited to, the following core research areas:
- Advancements in novel fuzzy set theories (e.g., interval type-2, intuitionistic, hesitant);
- Theoretical stability, robustness, and performance guarantees for fuzzy control systems;
- Rigorous mathematical analysis of fuzzy inference mechanisms and fuzzy logic operators;
- Development of hybrid models integrating fuzzy logic with specialized frameworks;
- Application of multiobjective optimization to fuzzy controller design;
- Utilization of evolutionary computation for system parameter tuning and reduction;
- Integration of fuzzy logic with deep learning for enhanced interpretability;
- Real-time implementation and hardware optimization of intelligent fuzzy controllers;
- Techniques for data-driven modelling of complex systems using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference;
- Research on explainable fuzzy control systems;
- Fuzzy modelling and control in cyber–physical systems and the Internet of Things;
- Deployment of intelligent fuzzy control in finance, bioinformatics, and smart manufacturing.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
