Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the exponential growth of system complexity in Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision making, traditional optimization methods face significant challenges in addressing high-dimensional, multi-objective, and dynamically uncertain problems. Inspired by natural evolution, evolutionary computation (EC) has demonstrated unique advantages in handling non-convex, discontinuous, and multi-modal optimization landscapes. However, critical challenges remain, including balancing exploration–exploitation tradeoffs, accelerating convergence in large-scale scenarios, and bridging theoretical advances with real-world applications. Furthermore, integrating EC with emerging technologies (e.g., quantum computing, edge AI) opens new frontiers for fundamental research and industrial innovations.

This Special Issue aims to present high-quality research on novel theories, algorithms, and applications of evolutionary computation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Multiobjective optimization, constraint handling, dynamic environments, and hybrid metaheuristics.
  2. Neural architecture search, hyperparameter optimization, and automated machine learning pipelines.
  3. GPU/quantum-accelerated EC, federated optimization, and cloud–edge deployment.
  4. EC in sustainable energy systems, healthcare decision support, and LLM fine-tuning.
  5. Convergence analysis, complexity theory, and interpretability of EC frameworks.

We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies that highlight methodological innovations or demonstrate transformative impacts in practical scenarios. This Special Issue seeks to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations and accelerate the deployment of EC technologies in next-generation intelligent systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
