Advances in Sustainable Animal Nutrition: Impacts on Physiology, Health, and Production

The global demand for animal-derived products continues to rise, increasing the pressure on the livestock sector to adopt sustainable nutrition strategies that ensure both high productivity and animal health. Modern animal nutrition research focuses on optimizing feed resources to improve animal physiology, enhance growth performance, support health and welfare, and ensure efficient nutrient utilization.

Recent advancements highlight the potential of alternative and non-conventional feed ingredients, such as agro-industrial by-products, insect-based meals, algae, and single-cell proteins, in improving the biological functions of animals. These feed resources can influence digestion, metabolism, immune function, and the gut microbiome, thereby contributing to better health outcomes, growth efficiency, and overall production performance.

This Special Issue, entitled “Advances in Sustainable Animal Nutrition: Impacts on Physiology, Health, and Production”, aims to collect advanced research, addressing how novel nutritional strategies affect the physiological, metabolic, and productive responses of livestock species. This issue focuses on exploring mechanisms related to digestion, metabolism, immunity, nutrient absorption, and gut health in relation to alternative feeds. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

• The effects of alternative feed ingredients on animal growth, performance, and nutrient utilization;
• Influence of feed strategies on digestion, metabolism, gut health, and microbiota composition;
• Impacts of nutrition on immune function, oxidative stress, and animal health;
• The role of precision feeding in optimizing physiological responses and feed efficiency;
• Nutritional interventions to support animal welfare and resilience.
