Perspectives on Nutrition and Livestock Health
This special issue belongs to the section “Animal Science“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The global demand for animal-derived protein is rising, placing unprecedented pressure on livestock production systems to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and animal welfare. Nutrition is the cornerstone of achieving these goals, as it directly influences animal health, productivity, disease resilience, reproductive performance, and the environmental footprint of farming. Recent advancements have moved beyond basic nutrient requirements, exploring the role of functional feed additives, precision feeding, gut microbiome management, and the use of alternative protein sources to create robust and sustainable production chains.
This Special Issue, “Perspectives on Nutrition and Livestock Health,” aims to compile cutting-edge research and reviews that address these modern challenges. We encourage submissions investigating innovative nutritional strategies to boost immunity, mitigate disease, improve gut health, enhance fertility and offspring viability, and reduce antimicrobial use. We are particularly interested in studies on the impact of nutrition on reproductive physiology, novel feed ingredients to optimize reproductive outcomes, the role of nutrition in mitigating reproductive stressors, and data-driven precision nutrition approaches. By sharing these insights, we hope to advance practices that ensure animal well-being, reproductive efficiency, and the overall sustainability of the livestock sector.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
