Aims and Scope
International Journal of Translational Medicine (ISSN 2673-8937) is an international, peer-reviewed open access journal that promotes the publication of original research articles, review articles, and other article types that can stimulate communication between basic and clinical scientists. The ultimate aim of the journal is to provide space for studies to start from a clinical question, address it by transitioning to the bench, and then translate the solution to the bedside once the original clinical question is solved. The journal adopts an inclusive definition of translational medicine. It considers translational research as any thorough scientific study aimed at connecting fundamental discoveries with clinical applications, no matter where it occurs in the translational continuum, including clinical observations, mechanistic laboratory investigations, and applied research. The defining characteristic is not the method used but whether the research produces clinically meaningful knowledge that can impact diagnosis, prevention, treatment, or healthcare systems.
All manuscripts submitted to IJTM must clearly demonstrate a link between the research and a clinically relevant issue. This link does not need to indicate immediate clinical application, nor is it required for every study to include patient data or therapeutic interventions. Instead, authors should explain how their work contributes to the broader process through which biomedical discoveries ultimately improve human health. While descriptive studies are valuable, they should clearly show how their findings enhance understanding of human disease or impact future clinical practices. Similarly, technological innovations should emphasize their potential relevance to biomedical research or patient care, rather than merely highlighting methodological improvements.
Furthermore, IJTM prioritizes hypothesis-driven, disease-centered research, which guides the investigations on the following four pillars:
1. Clinical Investigation and Human Studies;
2. Mechanistic and Experimental Biology;
3. Translational Technologies and Biomedical Innovation;
4. Precision Medicine and Human Disease Models.
The journal's emphasis includes, but is not limited to, the following research areas:
- The clinical applicability of new biomaterials,
- Biotechnologies;
- Bioengineering;
- Biomarker discovery and validation;
- Omics science;
- Molecular medicine;
- Precision and personalized medicine;
- Immunology, immunotherapy, and immune-based treatment;
- Diagnostics and molecular imaging;
- Bioinformatics;
- Drug discovery and development;
- Population health;
- Gene therapy;
- Stem cells;
- Cancer biology;
- Translational approaches in regenerative medicine;
- Human models in translational medicine;
- Integration of artificial intelligence in clinical decision-making;
- Clinical studies that address translational questions to improve clinical practice or facilitate evidence-based translation into patient care.
The International Journal of Translational Medicine welcomes submissions from researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and the industry. There is no restriction on the maximum length of papers. Full experimental and/or methodological details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced.
MDPI Publication Ethics Statement
MDPI is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
MDPI takes the responsibility to enforce a rigorous peer-review together with strict ethical policies and standards to ensure to add
high quality scientific works to the field of scholarly publication. Unfortunately, cases of plagiarism, data falsification, inappropriate
authorship credit, and the like, do arise. MDPI takes such publishing ethics issues very seriously and our editors are trained to proceed in
such cases with a zero tolerance policy. To verify the originality of content submitted to our journals, we use iThenticate to check submissions against previous publications.
