Immunoregulation of Abnormal Cell Proliferation: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Strategies

Dear Colleagues,
Abnormal cell proliferation is a common core feature of many diseases, particularly tumors and autoimmune disorders. Immune microenvironment imbalance is a key factor regulating abnormal cell proliferation. The imbalanced immune microenvironment and abnormally proliferating cells often trigger and sustain disease progression. In tumors, chronic inflammation serves as a critical driver for the initiation and development of malignant neoplasms. In psoriasis, pro-inflammatory factors such as IL-17, IL-1β, and IL-6 induce abnormal proliferation of keratinocytes, leading to the formation of white scales; the abnormally proliferating keratinocytes in turn secrete pro-inflammatory factors, recruiting immune cells and activating inflammatory responses. In rheumatoid arthritis, synovial cells in the joints undergo abnormal proliferation in response to external inflammatory stimuli, resulting in synovial hyperplasia and joint swelling. Therefore, deciphering the interaction mechanisms between the imbalanced immune microenvironment and abnormally proliferating cells is of great significance for understanding the occurrence and development of diseases such as tumors and autoimmune disorders. Meanwhile, modulating the imbalanced immune microenvironment can, to some extent, eliminate cytokines that trigger abnormal cell proliferation and alleviate disease symptoms, representing a novel therapeutic strategy for many diseases.
This Special Issue primarily focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms by which the immune microenvironment regulates abnormal or malignant cell proliferation from both experimental and clinical research perspectives, aiming to develop new treatment strategies.
