Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Permanent magnet motor drives have become a cornerstone of modern motion control and energy conversion, finding widespread application in electric vehicles, industrial automation, renewable energy, home appliances, and smart equipment. As the demand for higher efficiency, broader speed range, enhanced reliability, and intelligent operation continues to grow, the development of advanced control strategies for permanent magnet motor drives faces both new challenges and opportunities. In recent years, we have seen significant progress in areas such as high-performance control algorithms, sensorless operation, health monitoring, and intelligent optimization, all of which have contributed to improved adaptability and robustness under increasingly complex operating conditions. Furthermore, the integration of cutting-edge power electronic devices, digital control platforms, and artificial intelligence is accelerating the innovation of control strategies, enabling more precise, efficient, and reliable motor drive systems.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to provide a platform for professionals from academia and industries worldwide to exchange their latest research and innovative ideas in the domain of control strategies for permanent magnet motor drives.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Application of artificial intelligence in control strategies;
  • Sensorless control strategies;
  • Online and offline parameter identification methods;
  • Field-weakening control techniques for high-speed operation;
  • Advanced modulation and overmodulation techniques;
  • High-efficiency and energy optimization control;
  • Electrolytic capacitor-less and low-cost drive solutions;
  • Application of modern control theories;
  • Integration of wide bandgap semiconductor devices;
  • Multiphase and special motor drive control techniques;
  • Fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control strategies;
  • Health monitoring and predictive maintenance strategies.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
