Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Smart cities are a combination of intelligent information and communication technologies in the infrastructure and daily operation of cities. With the rapid development of 5G networks and Internet of Things, applications of smart cities increase in many fields including transportation, critical infrastructure, medical services, governance, and so on. Moreover, applications in smart cities with blockchain technology have also been proposed. In summary, applications with the mentioned technologies have the potential for smart cities to develop many services that benefit the daily lives of people in many aspects. On the other hand, new services or systems bring related security issues. Compared with conventional network environments, smart cities are built with wireless networks which may transmit sensitive and private data and have more vulnerabilities than conventional networks. Risks are present at many levels, from people to organizations, and even the whole country.

In this Special Issue, we would like to invite researchers to submit the latest advances and prospects of cyber-security in smart cities. Papers should include a description of the topic and the applications or related issues and challenges, as well as related work. Furthermore, they should explain how technologies integrate or protect mechanisms in any aspects of smart cities. Ideally, evaluation should be performed by appropriate studies and can be proven by scientific results.

We would particularly like to invite submissions of the latest advances and prospects of cyber-security in smart cities that have received little or no attention to date. We would also like to encourage submissions that use immersive technology such as augmented or virtual reality, quantum computing, post-quantum cryptosystem, zero-trust architecture, artificial intelligence, etc.

The rising prevalence of diseases linked to factors such as excessive alcohol and tobacco use, sedentary lifestyles, and poor nutrition has led to a greater focus on Personal Health Promotion (PHP) as a preventive measure. PHP emphasizes improving quality of life and well-being, driven by advances in medical technology, including virtual and augmented reality. However, as PHP systems grow in popularity, concerns over personal data security, such as account theft and information breaches, have become increasingly important. To address these concerns, this study proposes a game-based personalized health promotion system that integrates Key-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (KP-ABE), key insulation, time-bound encryption. These methods ensure data security through hierarchical access control and dynamic time management, protecting personal health records and exercise prescriptions. The system also incorporates key insulation to enhance the security of private keys. This multi-layered security approach provides a robust solution for safeguarding sensitive data within PHP systems while accommodating dynamic subscription needs and legal access requirements.
