Computer Architecture and Parallel Computing
This special issue belongs to the section “Computer Science & Engineering“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In the face of escalating computing demands, particularly in the era of large language model (LLM)-based applications, the necessity for efficient and scalable solutions has grown. These solutions must effectively leverage parallelism and optimized hardware architectures. To ensure dependable and sustainable computational support, it is imperative to encompass key innovations in new hardware designs for high-performance computing architectures. These include aspects like networking, distributed systems, multi-core processors, and accelerators. Equally vital are the software techniques that unlock their complete potential, such as parallel applications and algorithms, performance assessment and modeling, as well as power and thermal management.
This Special Issue is dedicated to presenting cutting-edge research and advancements that tackle the challenges and opportunities inherent in these domains. Beyond that, it aims to foster a platform for the exchange of ideas and insights that will significantly influence the trajectory of computing in the future.
We encourage submissions covering a wide range of topics related to Computer Architecture and Parallel Computing, including but not limited to:
- Novel Processor Architectures: Exploration of innovative CPU, GPU, FPGA, and accelerator designs to improve performance, energy efficiency, and specialization for various workloads.
- Memory Hierarchy and Storage Systems: Techniques for designing efficient memory hierarchies, cache coherence, memory consistency, and storage systems that accommodate the demands of parallel applications.
- Parallel Programming Models and Languages: Research on programming languages, libraries, and frameworks that facilitate the development of parallel software while ensuring optimal resource utilization.
- Multi-core and Many-core Systems: Investigations into the design, programming, and management of systems with multiple cores or many-core processors, including challenges in communication and synchronization.
- Parallel Algorithms and Applications: Development of algorithms that leverage parallelism for tasks such as data analytics, machine learning, scientific simulations, and more.
- Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking: Methodologies for assessing the performance of parallel systems, including benchmark suites and metrics that reflect real-world computing scenarios.
- Power and Thermal Management: Strategies for managing power consumption and heat dissipation in parallel computing environments to ensure sustainability and reliability.
- Emerging Technologies: Exploration of emerging technologies like quantum computing and neuromorphic architectures in the context of parallel computing.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
