Recent Advances in Blockchain Technology and Its Applications
This special issue belongs to the section “Computer Science & Engineering“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The blockchain is the underlying technology of decentralized cryptocurrencies; it has become an emerging decentralized data management framework which provides numerous applications to enable data consistency, privacy and security in the decentralized network. Many applications adopt blockchain technology in networks of distributed computing entities to ensure that the data are consistent based on maintaining privacy and security. Moreover, the integration of the blockchain with the Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing and artificial intelligence enhances services, allowing them to be autonomous, smart and secure in heterogeneous industries such as healthcare, buildings, power grids and transportation. However, there are many challenges that come with the characteristics of the blockchain in integrated applications, such as network latency and computing ability in distributed systems.
Contributions from all fields related to the blockchain are invited to be submitted to this Special Issue, with particular focus on the following:
- Theory, applications, case studies and project reports related to blockchain protocols, frameworks and platforms;
- IoT edge computing applications based on blockchain solutions in smart spaces such as homes, buildings, hospitals, factories, campuses, cities and others;
- The implementation of smart services using machine learning, deep learning, federated learning, gossip learning and swarm learning in distributed systems based on blockchain solutions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
