Fusion Imaging and Navigation for Percutaneous Ablation

Dear Colleagues,

The outcome of percutaneous ablation is significantly affected by the achieved technical success (i.e., complete tumor and sufficient peritumoral margins necrosis). At the moment there is initial literature evidence reporting that the application of navigation systems is governed by increased technical efficacy rates when compared to free-hand approaches. Defining technical success is usually performed through a side-by-side juxtaposition of pre- and post-ablation contrast-enhanced axial imaging. Ablation confirmation software which accurately compares pre- and post-ablation imaging should be routinely employed for the verification of successful ablative therapies.

This Special Issue welcomes original articles presenting innovations in navigation-guided ablation as well as applications of verification software focusing upon personalized therapies in cancer patients as well as review articles describing the current state of the art.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

• Pre- and intraprocedural imaging for planning and guidance;
• Fusion imaging systems and their application in interventional oncology therapies;
• Navigation systems and their application in interventional oncology therapies;
• Percutaneous ablation techniques and products;
• Ablation zone verification software and procedural efficacy;
• Musculoskeletal interventions performed under navigation system guidance;
• Palliative therapies performed under navigation system guidance.
