Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Neurosurgery has been rapidly boosted by the introduction of endoscopic techniques. In fact, a broad spectrum of neurosurgical procedures has been enhanced and taken from neuroendoscopy, from skull base to endoventricular surgery and beyond. In particular, different endoscopic corridors modified the approach to skull base, fostering a minimal invasive management of several skull base lesions. Endoventricular endoscopy has emerged as valuable and effective alternatives to open craniotomy for several endoventricular lesions and CSF pathology. Moreover, different endoscopic techniques have been developed for the treatment of different pathology, from brain trauma to functional or pediatric and malformative neurosurgery.

Nowadays, the improvement of intraoperative and optic technology, the integration of advanced neuroimaging, the development of robotic-assisted devices, the wide availability of biocomputational tools and realistic simulators for pre-operative planning pave the way for cutting-edge technical advancement in neuroendoscopy and further indications in cranial neurosurgery.

However, neuroendoscopy currently faces several hurdles, such as technical limits of neuroendoscopes and surgical instruments, the access to dedicated intraoperative devices, a steep technical learning curve, the need of proper training and mentorship to promote specific skill acquisition and the popularization of neuroendoscopic techniques.

This Special Issue of Cancers calls for original studies, technical innovations, clinical series, and comprehensive reviews about neuroendoscopy, from skull base to endoventricular and endoscope-assisted neurosurgery. We welcome contributions focusing on clinical applications and indications of neuroendoscpy, exploring novel techniques and emerging technology, proposing novel approach and training for endoscopic procedures and assessing limits and potentialities of endoscopic applications in neurosurgery.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
