Human Carcinogens—New Insights from Occupational Exposure

This special issue belongs to the section “Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Occupational carcinogens remain a critical public health challenge, continuing to cause a significant burden of work-related cancers across various sectors. Despite progress in industrial hygiene and risk assessment, exposure to carcinogenic agents—many of which are chemical substances—persists in numerous workplaces. Recognizing and characterizing these exposures is essential to prevention. The European Union has set ambitious targets to reduce occupational cancer incidence as part of its broader cancer control strategy. Achieving these goals requires updated approaches for hazard identification and exposure assessment. New technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), offer promising tools to enhance early detection of carcinogenic risks, refine exposure models, and identify emerging threats. This Special Issue aims to explore the state of knowledge on occupational carcinogens, present recent scientific advances, and promote innovative strategies for monitoring and prevention. Special emphasis is placed on chemical carcinogens, the role of occupational surveillance, and the integration of AI in exposure science and public health policy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
