Emerging Nanobiotechnology and Biosensing Platforms for Analytical and Biomedical Applications
This special issue belongs to the section "Medical Biotechnology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid development of nanobiotechnology has presented new prospects for designing biosensing platforms with enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, specificity, and analytical performance. Combining nanomaterials with biological recognition elements and state-of-the-art sensing technologies has enabled the creation of sophisticated tools for the rapid detection and monitoring of biomolecules, pathogens, biomarkers, and other therapeutically and ecologically relevant targets. Analytical science, biological diagnostics, disease monitoring, and personalised healthcare are all benefiting from developments that are driving substantial progress.
This Special Issue, “Emerging Nanobiotechnology and Biosensing Platforms for Analytical and Biomedical Applications”, focuses on recent advances in the creation, characterisation, and application of nanobiotechnology-enabled biosensors and bioanalytical platforms. It will explore novel nanomaterials such as metallic and metal oxide nanoparticles, carbon-based nanomaterials, graphene and graphene-derived materials, nanocomposites, quantum dots, polymers, and other functional nanostructures, and their integration into innovative biosensing systems.
The Special Issue will cover key areas of biosensor design, including nanomaterial synthesis and functionalisation, biomolecular recognition, signal amplification, sensor interfaces, transduction mechanisms, analytical validation, and device integration. Contributions on electrochemical, optical, fluorescent, colourimetric, plasmonic, and other emerging biosensing methods are particularly welcome.
Applications of interest include detecting infectious and pathogenic microorganisms, antimicrobial resistance, cancer markers, genetic and molecular targets, metabolic and cardiovascular markers, foodborne pathogens, environmental contaminants, and other clinically or analytically relevant analytes. We also welcome contributions on nanobiotechnology-based techniques for rapid diagnostics, point-of-care testing, therapeutic monitoring, health monitoring, and precision medicine.
In addition to original research pieces, the Special Issue includes high-quality reviews and insights on current trends, technological obstacles, and future directions in nanobiosensing. We particularly welcome contributions that link nanotechnology, molecular biology, biotechnology, analytical chemistry, microbiology, and biomedical sciences.
The Special Issue aims to bring together multidisciplinary research across these fields to showcase emerging strategies to improve biosensor performance and translate nanobiotechnology from laboratory research into practical analytical, diagnostic, and biomedical applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. BioTech is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
