Biomedical Engineering and Biomaterials

Section Information

Biomedical biomaterials play a critical role in current and future clinical devices and treatments that improve the quality of life after disease or injury.  These materials range from natural (i.e., collagen, alginate, silk, and chitosan) to synthetic (i.e., polymers, metals, and ceramics) as well as bio-absorbable and non-absorbable.  This Bioengineering section focuses on the innovations at the intersection of material science, chemistry, biology, medicine, and engineering that will propel the field into the next generation of biomedical biomaterials and their use in the development of emerging clinical devices and treatments.
